My name is Guy. I joined the day centre many years ago. I remember meeting in a house, the time was around 1950's. For transport my dad organised this. He worked the Sunday night organising transport for Tuesday. At this time all our parents took part in organising things for the centre to keep running. There was no ramps for the buses or tracking, some clients had to be tied in with a rope (Mind you we were all a bit lighter then ha! ha!)
Hi my name is Margaret. I have been coming to the centre for many years. I live in my own flat in Shawlands I share with my friend Pat. I come to the centre 4 days a week. I enjoy activities such as Arts and crafts, Women’s achievers and Stow College. I enjoy the centre as I like the people there. It stops me getting bored. I also attend social nights when we go to the pictures, bowling, theatre etc.
Hi. I am Alison. I joined the centre in 1997.During my time I have met a lot of friends, Angela Barnes was the day centre manager when I came here, Margaret Barr was the senior in my time here. I have seen a lot of changes (for the better).Things at the centre are progressing well, I have learned a lot of things about myself. I have a wider range of activities including outside activities i.e. College, project ability etc.
Hi. I am Brian. I have attended the service for years, 5 days a week. I enjoy socialising with my friends at the centre, going out for lunches a beer, cinema or bowling. I like listening to music , particularly Elvis. I enjoy taking part in Karaoke at the centre. I attend stow College one day a week.
My name is Janet. I am one of the new one’s although I have been coming to the centre for about 10 years. I like to come to the centre to see all my pals and do activities such as knitting. My other favourite is art which is on a Friday where we have an artist called Aileen she comes in and teaches us new crafts, designs and new techniques in doing art. I love cookery also which I do at Stow College and Martha’s exercise class is a hoot! We have social nights once a month and I really look forward to these, in fact try and stop me from coming to the centre and I’ll crack up!
My name is Ann McGoldrick and I am 56 years old and have been coming to the centre for 40 years. I have been living in Forrest House for a year and love it. I love coming to the centre because I love having a chat to other clients and staff and if I have a problem I can go to a member of staff as I feel very comfortable talking to them. I go to Stow College on a Monday also I attended the hydro which I love because the physio is a man! I also do an exercise class, I don’t like doing it but once I've started I do enjoy it. I have a key worker Martha and a link mate Kate and they make sure all my care plan is up to date.
My name is Cathy and I have been attending the Rotary Day Centre for years. I enjoy meeting my friends and having a laugh. I also like attending Stow College and baking cakes. I am a great fan of Daniel O'Donnel and enjoy going to his concerts.
